So I was about 34% in and I message my friend this:
“You ever start consuming a piece of absolute romcom mutual pining trash and decide that yes I’m ready for this garbage to fully ruin me”
And then I proceeded to finish this book in one sitting. I think if I hadn’t I would have maybe died, like the kind of dying you do when a fluffy tv drama ends on a cliffhanger or teases a relationship and then you sit there thinking well shit I guess I’ll just die now because I need to KNOW. Fast-paced I think is maybe the word I am looking for. Yeah.
The beginning was a bit rocky and I didn’t fully buy into the whole love at first sight scene but the book really just gets better as you get more invested. The writing was relatable and funny. The first person flipping back and forth btwn Laurie and bus dude (lol I’ve already forgotten his name) is well done and not annoying. Kudos for that. Bus dude is a douchehole for a significant part of the book so I’m relieved we didn’t have to spend as many chapters in his head as Laurie’s. Likewise appreciated the time jumps so we could get on with the bits where stuff happens lol.
Great female friendships. Lots of tortured pining. Catty mother in law. Pretty great read.
An incredibly cute magical realist WLW romance between a college student and a mysterious rugged girl trapped on a subway and…in time…
